MCR poster
Just did this poster for Motor City Rocks. I wanted to give a little nod to Hatch Show Print while still doing my own thing– I hope it comes across. I'd link to Hatch's website but Google says it's infected! So instead here's a link to Noman, whose folk-punk I've been digging lately.

More Von Bondies
Jason "Von Bondie" Stollsteimer dug the illustration I did of his band a while ago, so when it came time to gather materials to put in their press kit for their new album, he gave me a chance to do some more illustrations to throw in:

Also, the original Von Bondies illustration I did was selected to be in CMYK Magazine #43, out in March.

I have three illustrations at ©POP's "©POPpor2nity" this Saturday. Looks like I'll see Buckenberger there, too!

Motor City Rocks
Not much new illustration work to share at the moment, but I have been busy in other graphic arts and not-so graphic arts related ways, giving Motorcityrocks.com a facelift. I tried to ape inspiration from Nashville's Hatch Show Print posters a little; Hatch's letterpressed show bills defined the look of early rock, country, and r n' b and I thought the antiquated look would also convey Detroit's deep musical history.
I downloaded Mister Retro's "Permanent Press Filter" to help artificially create the letterpressed look, but it's hard to get it to look right– nothing compares to the beautiful textures of actual letterpress. I should have tried to use CCS's or Don's presses. But as with the half-tone comics stuff, it's fun to try to replicate digitally effects that just come naturally with the other processes. And I am excited to try out Mister Retro's filters on other things.
Anyway, we figured the 2008 Metrotimes' "Peoples' Pick" for Best Music Blog was as good an occasion as any to redecorate a little. And speaking of MT, in this week's issue they let me review the new record by Alan Sheurman, a far-out folk/psychedelic project which I dug. You can skip my review and just hear it for yourself, since Sheurman released it in the trendy "free download" format on his website today.

Tequila
If you've ever wondered what your illustrations would like like as a 1800 Tequila label, you can now find out.

happy halloween
Here's a Halloween illustration, although it really wasn't supposed to be when I started it. Would it not look so Halloweeny if it weren't Halloween? Or did Halloween, grinning all along at the end of the month, slowly shape it in its image? Whatever the case, Happy Halloween.
Also, I have a profile up at CMYK now.
